Bengaluru: After days of unrelenting rainfall, Bengaluru, along with other parts of Karnataka, is dealing with the impact of Cyclone Fengal. The heavy showers, which began on Sunday evening, have brought a sudden dip in temperatures, leaving residents wondering when they can expect clear skies. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there’s some good news on the horizon – rainfall in the city is set to ease soon.
When Will Rain Stop in Bangalore?
The IMD confirmed that widespread rain in Bengaluru and across Coastal and South Interior Karnataka is due to Cyclone Fengal’s influence. While heavy showers are expected to continue through Monday, light to moderate rainfall is forecast for Tuesday. The IMD predicts a significant decline in rainfall starting December 4, with dry weather likely from December 6 onwards.
C S Patil, Director of the IMD Bengaluru, stated, “The widespread rainfall since Sunday is directly linked to Cyclone Fengal’s influence. While Bengaluru will see relief starting tomorrow, some coastal areas may experience lingering heavy showers.”
Schools Shut, Fishermen Warned
The ongoing downpour has prompted school and college closures in several districts, including Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, and Mysuru, for December 2. Similarly, educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada will remain shut on December 3 due to adverse weather conditions. Fishermen have been urged to avoid venturing into the sea, with district officials advising those already out to return immediately.
Cyclone Fengal Weakens but May Re-Emerge
As of early Monday, the IMD reported that Cyclone Fengal’s remnants had weakened into a low-pressure system over northern Tamil Nadu. However, this system is expected to re-emerge over the Arabian Sea near northern Kerala and Karnataka by December 3.
Residents are advised to stay cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and steer clear of riverbanks and beaches during this period. While relief from the rain is imminent for Bengaluru, other parts of Karnataka may still face weather challenges in the coming days.
