Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is among one of the most-followed IPL franchises and the fans are eagerly waiting to hear a word on the retentions. There are few automatic retentions in CSK's camp and there is no doubt that Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni will stay with the Yellow Army. CSK can retain Dhoni for Rs 4 crore.
The order of retention could be a headache for CSK. Since Ruturaj is their captain, he should be CSK's first-choice retention. But Jadeja is a legend and the franchise might not want him to be its second-choice retention. The first-choice retention will earn Rs 18 crore while the second-choice retention will have a salary of Rs 14 crore.
Not to forget, Jadeja was CSK's first-choice retention before the IPL 2022 mega-auction and he earned Rs 16 crore for three years. The Times of India has reported that both Jadeja and Ruturaj could end up earning the same salaries.
This could also result in low payday for Ruturaj. Under the IPL's rules, a franchise and player can discuss the amount for which he wants to get retained. The final amount should not be more than the limit set for every retention.
Both Jadeja and Ruturaj can also end up earning Rs 18 crore each but in that case, the other retentions will have to take a pay cut because a total of 43 crore will remain for the remainder four retentions. Out of these, Dhoni will be paid Rs 4 crore.
CSK can also retain both Jadeja and Ruturaj for Rs 18 crore each without any player taking a pay cut. But in that case, one of them will have to be the team's fourth-choice retention. A final word on the retentions will be out on October 31. Apart from Dhoni, Ruturaj and Jadeja, CSK are likely to retain Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube.
