Pune: The mother of cricketer-turned-actor Salil Ankola was found dead at her Pune home on Friday with her throat slit, police said, reported PTI. The cops said the injuries prima facie look “self inflicted”. 77-year-old Mala Ashok Ankola’s body was found in her flat on Prabhat Road in Deccan Gymkhana area in the afternoon, the official said, the report said.
"The incident came to light after her maid came to the flat and then alerted relatives after no one answered the door," he said, adding that when the door was opened, the woman was found dead with her throat slit.
"Prima facie, it looks like the injuries are self-inflicted. However, we are probing the case from all angles," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Sandip Singh Gill.

An initial probe revealed that the deceased was suffering from some mental ailment. Salil Ankola has played one Test and 20 ODIs between 1989 and 1997 as a fast-medium bowler. He later acted in several films and TV serials.
According to police, the housemaid first learnt about the crime and informed the cops. The rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was dead on admission. The body was later sent for an autopsy to ascertain the exact causes of her death. Only after the postmorten report is out, it would be concluded whether it was a murder or not, an official told media persons at the site, news agency IANS said.
Initial revealed that there was no sign of forced entry to their home, nor did the neighbours hear any sounds from the house. The police are meanwhile scanning the CCTVs in the neighborhood and questioning locals for clues.
