Padel has exploded on the global stage and is witnessing a massive rise in the participation of young players from different countries. These athletes are pushing the limits of the game. Juan Lebron Chincoa, the current world number one, has pointed out how rivalries are increasing as the game simultaneously undergoes a rapid transformation.
"There are more and more young, well-trained players with a bright future ahead of them," Chincoa told FT before adding, "The competition is getting fierce."
Earlier, Spain and Argentina ruled the roost in the sport, but Italy and Sweden are now taking centre stage. The 2024 Padel Report also sheds new light on a big rise in the number of female players. As many as 1362 women ranked by the FIP are competing worldwide. This increase in female athletes highlights the growing popularity and inclusivity of padel.

The rise in competition in padel is mainly due to more money being invested in the sport. This investment is speeding up how professionals operate in padel. Well-known investors and sports stars have extended support via major tournaments and building modern venues, which helps the game grow by leaps and bounds.
"As the sport grows, we can expect more exciting matches and talented players to emerge," observed Chincoa. The future of padel looks bright, and the competition is getting stronger.
While Chincoa is the current world number one, other big names in the sport include Fernando Belasteguin, who is a legend. Alejandro Galan, Arturo Coello, Roby Gattiker, and Alejandro Lasaigues are among the other big names.
