Madhya Pradesh: Class 11 school student has jumped to death from hostel. The student allegedly committed suicide in Dhar in Madhya Pradesh by jumping off the fourth floor of his hostel, an official said. This happened at the government tribal hostel in Gandhwani, which is almost 80 kilometres from the district headquarters.
The deceased was a student of Chief Minister Rise School. "He ended his life by jumping off the fourth floor of the hostel building. We are probing the reason behind this extreme step," said Sub Divisional Magistrate Rahul Gupta. A two-member committee, comprising Sub District Magistrate and tribal welfare department assistant commissioner will probe the incident after which further action will be taken.
Maharashtra Student Attempts Suicide
Recently, a Class X student attempted suicide in the government-aided ashram school in Maharashtra's Palghar district. 17-year-old student tried to hang herself with a scarf inside the school's washroom. The incident happened in a school situated in Ransheth on September 2. Personnel from the state's Tribal Project have been sent to the school to inquire into the matter and submit a report, said Dahanu Project official Satyam Gandhi.
Odisha is witnessing many suicides, as many as 189 students died by suicide in Odisha in 2023, a jump of around 59 per cent compared to the 119 deaths in 2021, the state Assembly was informed on Monday. Responding to a question asked by MLA Dhruba Charan Sahoo, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that as many as 481 students including 218 boys and 263 girls have died by suicide in the state between 2021 and 2023.
