Citroen India launched the Basalt SUV Coupe in the Indian market in August 2024. The car is among the first models in its category. The new entrant to the Indian car scene has been tested for its safety under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). The test resulted in Basalt scoring a four-star rating. It is to be noted that the vehicle that underwent testing is a top-spec Turbo Max variant. Specifically, Basalt managed 26.19 points out of 32 for Adult Occupant Protection and 35.90 points out of 49 for Child Occupant Protection.
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Citroen Basalt achieved a score of 10.19 out of 16. This test demonstrated "good" protection for the head and neck of the driver and front passenger. However, the driver's chest and thighs received "marginal" protection, while the front passenger had "adequate" protection for the chest and "marginal" protection for the thighs. The new Citroen Basalt achieved a perfect score of 16 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test.

In terms of Child Occupant Protection, the Basalt received 19.90 points out of 24 in the Dynamic score with the use of child restraint systems for both an 18-month-old child and a three-year-old child.
Apart from the built quality and structure, the safety of Citroen Basalt is supported by features like six airbags as a standard feature across variants, ISOFIX, hillhold assist, ESP, ISOFIX three-point seatbelts, rear parking camera, parking sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Sold at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Citroen Basalt is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 80 bhp of power and 115 Nm of peak torque. This power unit is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. In the higher variants, the brand offers a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which produces 109 bhp of power and 190 Nm of peak torque with a 6-speed manual transmission. The torque output increases to 205 Nm with an automatic gearbox.
