Chennai: Several areas of Tamil Nadu including Chennai are experiencing heavy rainfall since three-four days due to cyclone Fengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange Alert for Chennai. The weather Department has also issued red alert for various districts including Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Cuddalore.
Cyclone Fengal
With Cyclonic Storm ‘Fengal’ approaching the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, a senior IMD official said that there was will be fairly widespread moderate rainfall in most of the parts of the state. Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre Director S Balachandran told news agency ANI that the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal now lies at about 310 km southeast of Nagapattinam and 410 km southeast of Puducherry and south-southeast of Chennai at about 480 km.

"It is likely to move north-northwestward and likely to cross between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram by the morning of the 30th morning. Under the influence of this system, rainfall is likely to occur in the next 2-3 days, fairly widespread moderate rainfall in most of the parts of Tamil Nadu," he said.
"As far as heavy rainfall is concerned, next 24 hours, one-two places in Delta districts, Chengalpattu and Viluppuram are going to experience it. Tomorrow, one-two places in Delta districts and Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Puducherry and Chengalpattu will receive extremely heavy rainfall," he added.

The weather forecast for the week ahead suggests mostly cloudy skies with frequent rain across the region. From 28 November to 30 November, temperatures will range from 23°C to 28°C, with moderate to heavy rain expected. On 1 December, temperatures will remain between 24°C and 28°C, with more moderate rain. On 2 December, the weather will be partly cloudy, and there is a chance of moderate rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 28°C. The following two days, 3 and 4 December, will see temperatures between 25°C and 30°C, with rain expected throughout.
Fengal Likely To Be A Weak Cyclone
The IMD on Thursday announced that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal could develop into a weak cyclone on Friday before making landfall as a deep depression between Karaikal and Mamallapuram on the morning of November 30.
