Chennai: IndiGo has announced the launch of daily direct flights from Chennai to Penang which will commence from December 21, making it the third Malaysian destination in the airline’s network after Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. Currently, no other airline operates on the Chennai-Penang route.
According to a Times of India report, the daily flights are scheduled to depart Chennai at 2:15 AM and land in Penang at 8:30 AM. The return flight will depart Malaysia at 9:30 AM and land in Chennai at 10:35 AM (all local times). The airline noted that the schedule may be subject to change depending on regulatory authority approvals.
IndiGo also mentioned that the service addresses increasing travel demands between these cities, offering convenient options for all travellers. Additionally, the airline will restore its Bengaluru-Kuala Lumpur route starting December 21.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo said, “We are extremely pleased to expand our network into Malaysia even further with the launch of daily, non-stop flights from Chennai to Penang. IndiGo stated, “Bookings are available through www.goIndiGo.in and the airline's mobile application. These new services strengthen IndiGo's international presence,” as quoted by TOI.
IndiGo operates a fleet of over 380 aircraft and connects to 85 domestic and 30 international destinations with over 2,100 daily flights. According to the latest Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, the airline holds a domestic market share of 63 percent.
