Chennai: Festive vibe is what people in Chennai are seeing with markets seeking heavy footfall a day before Diwali. Amid the celebration mood, slow vehicular movement was witnessed in several areas of the city with people coming out for festival shopping.
A heavy traffic congestion was seen in Chennai's Koyambedu area with vehicles moving at a snail's pace. Visuals shared by ANI and X users show flyovers severely crowded with cars and bikes moving slowly for kilometres due to traffic jam.
Amid all this, several parts of the city witnessed rain on Wednesday evening leading to further traffic congestion at underpasses and xings.

On Tuesday also, Chennai saw rain in the evening and the same weather conditions were witnessed on Wednesday hinting at possible showers on the day of Diwali (October 31) as well.
Several users on X shared videos of waterlogged streets and roads after rain that has led to traffic chaos in the region. Individual forecasters have predicted light rain or drizzle early morning on Diwali.
A yellow alert was earlier issued by the weather department till 7 PM in Chennai, Vellore, Chengalpattu and Theni among other areas with warning of waterlogging on roads.
Chennai Weather for Next 6 Days
As per the India Meteorology Department (IMD), Chennai is likely to witness partly cloudy sky with thunderstorms and light to moderate rain on Diwali (October 31). The weather conditions in the city is mostly likely to remain the same till November 5.
Rain is likely in several parts of Chennai and adjoining districts during the next 6 days and residents are advised to make their plans accordingly.
