Chandigarh: A 37-year-old waiter at a dhaba was killed, and his 28-year-old deaf colleague suffered injuries following a late-night assault by a group of men. The incident took place in Sector 24, Chandigarh, on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Jaspreet Singh, also known as Jassi, and the injured man as Akash. Reportedly, the attack occurred after the dhaba refused to serve chicken to the group of men.

According to an Indian Express report, the incident occurred after four men arrived at the dhaba around 11 p.m., requesting chicken. The dhaba owner refused as it was closing time, which led to an argument, though the group of men initially left. However, about 45 minutes later, the men returned armed with a cricket wicket and a sharp weapon.

The report added that they attacked Jassi and Akash, who had remained at the dhaba. Jassi suffered severe head injuries, and Akash raised an alarm. The complainant, Pankaj Kumar, son of the dhaba owner, rushed the victims to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, where Jassi was referred to PGI and later succumbed to his injuries. Akash, who suffered multiple head injuries, remained under treatment at GMSH-16.

Following the complaint, police registered a murder case and swiftly arrested six people, including a juvenile. However, another suspect is yet to be captured. The arrested men were identified as Sagar, Joginder, Gurmeet, Viru, and Raji. According to sources, Jassi had worked at the dhaba for two years and lived nearby, the Indian Express report added.
