Malayalam actor Siddique has been booked by the Museum Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram for non-bailable offences including rape over a complaint filed by actor Revathy Sampath.
The police registered the case against Siddique after the female actor lodged a complaint with the Special Investigation Team that was formed to probe into the sexual allegations in the Malayalam film industry. As per the FIR, Siddique raped the woman at the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram on January, 2016. Apart from rape, Siddique is also facing charges including criminal intimidation for threatening and coercing Revathy.
Revathy's Stand On The Matter
Earlier, while speaking to the media, Revathy Sampath had mentioned that she was not ready to sue Siddique or pursue any legal recourse over the incident that took place eight years ago. The actor opened up about the incident before the media on August 24, Saturday, a few days after Siddique, in a press conference held to clarify the stand of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on the Hema Committee Report, and personally rubbished many findings of the report while claiming to be in support of it. In 2019, Revathy had raised similar allegations against the senior actor as part of the Me Too movement, but nothing much came of it.
Now, reports indicate that that Revathy decided to lodge a complaint with the Special Investigation Team on Auust 27, Tuesday, after a female official from the team contacted her and extended full support towards investigating the allegations.
Siddique's Response
Meanwhile, Siddique had filed a complaint with the DGP alleging that there was an agenda behind Revathy’s allegations against him. The actor had to step down from his position at the helm of AMMA in the light of these allegations. Claiming innocence, the senior actor denied the allegations and argued that he had met Revathy only in the presence of her parents.
