New Delhi: A city-based businessman in New Delhi has filed an FIR against a social media application for fraudulently duping him of a large sum of money. According to the FIR, a company named “Hi Box App” launched a scheme that lured people into making investments ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 1 lakh.
When people made these investments, they were given a box in return. The FIR mentioned that the contents of the box would be taken back by the application, and in exchange, the box buyers would receive an additional 1 percent profit.
The FIR further stated that people were enticed by the prospect of earning up to Rs 1,000 per day without any effort and began investing heavily. However, after some time, as people invested larger sums, they were unable to withdraw their money. It also stated that big social media influencers also endorsed the application.
According to the police, many victims have approached the Delhi Police regarding the same issue. The Delhi Police cyber cell is investigating the case. So far, the scam is estimated to involve around Rs 100 crore, with the potential for this amount to increase further.
