Bengaluru: Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the executive chairperson and founder of Biocon Ltd, talked about the importance of safety for all citizens, especially women, during a graduation ceremony for BCLIP Civic Leaders in Bengaluru on Saturday. She stressed that ensuring safety is crucial and urged everyone to contribute towards making cities safe.
Mazumdar-Shaw expressed concern over the rising safety issues across the country, talking about the recent tragic rape incident in Kolkata as an example, as per a TOI report. She stated, "We've seen a lot of safety issues, especially for women, in many parts of the country, particularly the recent horrific rape in Kolkata. Having said that, we want Bengaluru to be the safest city for women in the country, and the city has to be safe for every citizen."
She also discussed the initiatives taken by BPAC (Bangalore Political Action Committee), of which she is the president, in addressing safety concerns, promoting citizen involvement in politics, and improving the city's mobility and sewage water management systems. She further pointed out that Bengaluru continues to face challenges like traffic congestion and sewage issues, calling for a focus on equity, ethics, and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.
Karnataka Assembly Speaker UT Khader also attended the event and shared his thoughts on politics. He compared politics to chemistry rather than mathematics, saying, "Two plus two may not be four. You may not get a solution. Like chemistry, you will get a reaction. But make sure your work is positive, never minus." He encouraged responsible citizens, particularly the youth, to take charge and play a significant role in the political arena.
