bihar’s 'positive' side goes viral: foreign visitors highlight state's rich heritage

Bihar is often perceived negatively, associated with issues like crime and poor infrastructure. However, the eastern state boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage, including ancient monuments and contributions to Buddhism and Jainism, making it a tourist attraction. A video showing foreign visitors documenting their journey through Bihar has gained attention on social media. The clip features three women riding in an e-rickshaw as they explore Rajgir- a city encircled by hills and renowned for its holy sites. They are also seen visiting a local fruit market, before heading to Bodh Gaya, a spiritual hub for Buddhists worldwide.

Bodh Gaya is home to the Mahabodhi Temple Complex, one of the world’s most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites. It is revered as the location where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment, attracting visitors from across the globe.

The video shared on the microblogging platform X, has garnered over 91.2k views and numerous comments. The caption reads: "Bihar has huge potential in every field. Good to see the positive image of the state. Do visit Rajgir and Bodh Gaya."

Social media users were quick to react. One commented, "If I’m not wrong, more foreign tourists visited Bihar than Goa in 2023. Good to see Bihar is progressing." Another wrote, "It’s great to see progress in Bihar. The state has often been known for crime and negative issues, but it’s nice to see things changing for the better."

A third user observed: "Bihar has remained an underrated tourist destination in India. It’s ironic that a state once home to one of the most prosperous ancient kingdoms now struggles to realise its potential in heritage tourism."
