Protests In Kolkata

Tensions surged in Kolkata Tuesday as protesters clashed with police during the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ march organised by Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj over the rape case. The rally, which called for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation over the case, turned chaotic with stone-throwing and police lathi charges. Four individuals were arrested for allegedly planning large-scale violence, and the protest was deemed “illegal and unauthorised” by the state government.

Sanjay Roy Admits To Strangling Victim

Accused Sanjay Roy, who has been under investigation for the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, reportedly admitted to strangling the victim after sexually assaulting her. Polygraph tests revealed that Roy killed the victim to silence her cries for help. The CBI’s investigation continues, with a second round of polygraph tests conducted on former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and searches at locations linked to him and his relatives.

The Supreme Court has directed that RG Kar Medical College's security be managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as part of the ongoing suo motu case.

The tragic incident occurred during the night of August 8-9, when the trainee doctor was raped and murdered in the hospital's seminar hall.
