New Delhi: Delhi-bound Swatantra Senani Express’ loco-engine suffered failure after hitting a wooden log lying on the rail track in the wee hours of Monday. The incident happened between Ghazipur Ghat and Ghazipur City railway station.
The loco engine after hitting the wooden log dragged it for over half-a-kilometre before coming to halt. The incident occurred at 3 am, delaying the train some 2.5 hours. As per police, Swatantrata Sangram Senani Express was on its way to New Delhi from Bihar's Jaynagar when the incident happened.
In the incident, the hosepipe of the train engine was damaged which acts as braking system while the train is operating on air pressure.
A team of RPF, GRP and Kotwali Police reached on the spot. An FIR was lodged at Sadar Kotwali of Ghazipur by junior railway engineer Nishant Kumar Singh agianst unknown miscreants.
The complaints were filed under sections of 150 (offence of maliciously attempting to wreck or wrecking a train) and 153 (anyone who endangers the safety of a person travelling on a railway by an unlawful act) and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) section 125 (Whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and 285 (Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the railway act.
The Police told that a similar incident happened on September 10 when miscreants placed gravel on the railway track and pelted stones on passengers. The Police are probing if the members of the same gang were involved in the act.
