Kartik Aaryan has carved a space for his fictional character, Rooh Baba, in the hearts of his fans. With the humongous success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, he reprises his role as a ghostbuster in the threequel. The horror-comedy comes at a time when the Indian film fraternity is obsessed with universes. Will Kartik get his own Rooh Babaverse?

In an exclusive interview withZoom, the director of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and3, Anees Bazmee, said he would give Rooh Baba Universe a thought as it is a lovable and iconic character. He told us, “Rooh Baba is a lovable character and so is Manjulika. They’re iconic characters so why not. Whenever we make a Rooh Baba Universe, people will love it.”
Talking about the trend of horror-comedies and the success rate of the genre, Anees shared, “It’s a good thing that horror-comedies are working and our film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is also coming. We’re in a comfortable zone. Alag waqt pe alag cheezein chalti hai. Maine kabhi genre pe dhyan nahi diya. Har genre ki film chal sakti hai lekin voh acchi bani honi chahiye. Comedy films ka shelf life zyada hota hai. Khush rehna sabse zyada zaruri hai. Itni pareshaniyan hai, usmein se agar ek insaan kuch ghanta hass le aur khush ho toh isse badi koi baat nahi hai.“
(Translation: It’s a good thing that horror-comedies are working and our film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is also coming. We’re in a comfortable zone. There's a right time for every genre. I don't pay much attention to this. Every genre works if it's well-made. The shelf life of comedy films is longer. It is necessary to be happy. If a person can sit down and enjoy a film for 2-3 hours, there's nothing better than that.)

Comedy films have more shelf life
He added, “Even if a person watches a comedy film repeatedly, there are zero chances of getting bored. Bhale hume uss film ke saare jokes pata hai lekin phir bhi dekhne mein maza aata hai. Films like Welcome, log abhi bhi dekhte hai aur vahi jokes pe baar baar haste hai. Iss shelf life ki vajah se, actors ko bhi bohot fayda hota hai. Log unko yaad karte hai.”
(Translation: Even if a person watches a comedy film repeatedly, there are zero chances of getting bored. You might know which joke is coming next but still, you enjoy that and laugh. Films like Welcome are regularly watched by the audience. Due to the shelf life of comedy films, people remember the actors too.)
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 also features Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Triptii Dimri, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra and Ashwini Kalsekar in lead roles. The film releases on November 1.
