Bengaluru: In a significant crackdown on traffic violations, the Bengaluru Traffic Police collected a whopping Rs 8.86 lakh in fines within just five hours during a special drive on November 8, 2024. The operation, conducted from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, aimed to ensure road safety by targeting specific traffic offences across the city.
Focus on School Vehicle Safety
Earlier in the day, a special operation was carried out by the South Traffic Division to address safety concerns related to school vehicles. Officers inspected 803 school vehicles to ensure compliance with traffic rules, particularly focusing on the safety of school children.
During the checks, 115 cases were registered against school vehicle drivers for various offences under the Indian Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. Notably, four drivers were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 104 cases were registered against those carrying excess children beyond the vehicle’s capacity. Seven other cases involved miscellaneous violations by school vehicle drivers.
The authorities have announced that this special operation will continue in the coming days to ensure stricter compliance with traffic rules, especially for school transportation.
Major Traffic Violations in the City
Simultaneously, a separate city-wide drive focused on six specific types of traffic violations, resulting in a total of 1,757 cases being booked. Here's a breakdown of the offences and fines collected:
– No Entry Violations: 453 cases booked, resulting in Rs 2,30,000 fines.
– Against One Way: 286 cases booked, leading to Rs 1,46,000 fines.
– Triple Riding: 57 cases booked, with fines totalling Rs 28,500.
– No Parking: 163 cases booked, resulting in Rs 81,500 fines.
– Footpath Parking: 80 cases booked, leading to Rs 41,000 fines.
– Driving Without Helmet: 718 cases booked, with fines amounting to Rs 3,59,000.
– Total: 1,757 cases booked, collecting a total of Rs 8,86,000 in fines.
The drive was aimed at curbing common traffic violations like driving without helmets, illegal parking, and entering no-entry zones.
Ongoing Efforts for Safer Roads
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic South Division), Shiv Prakash Devaraju, emphasised that such special drives will continue in the future to promote safer roads and stricter adherence to traffic rules. The authorities have urged the public to follow traffic regulations diligently to avoid penalties and ensure the safety of all road users.
