bengaluru schools closed tomorrow due to heavy rains, imd issues alert

Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Bengaluru and have left the low-lying areas inundated. Bengaluru Urban District Commissioner on Tuesday released an order directing all schools and colleges will remain closed today due to heavy rains. Several private shools have decided to close the schools on Thursday, October 17 as well. Students are advised to be in touch with their respective schools for not missing updates on school holiday.

Since there is no official announcement for all the government and private schools and colleges, the students must contact their schools for accurate information. Reports claim that some private schools may conduct online classes this week.

Schools Closed in Chennai, Bengaluru and THESE Districts Due to Very Heavy Rainfall

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is in charge of Bengaluru Urban district, visited the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room on Tuesday and instructed the officials to be alert on a 24-hour basis. "Bengaluru has received an unexpected rainfall of 65 mm. As there is a possibility of rain over the next three days, the BBMP control room and officials must remain operational 24 hours a day," said Shivakumar.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy slammed the Congress government for the situation. He stated, "Bengaluru's rain fury has exposed the utter collapse of infrastructure! The so-called 'Silicon Valley of India' is now drowning in its own negligence. The IT corridor is flooded, roads are impassable, and the city is sinking".

"I appeal to citizens to take necessary precautions in the wake of the rains. There might be some traffic issues today," Shivakumar, who is also the Minister in-charge of Bengaluru Development, said. He said he would review the situation in the evening with the police, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), fire department and other concerned officials.
