Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar took a test run of the 3.14 km Nagasandra -Madavara (BIEC) metro extension, which is is ready for inauguration soon. During his visit, he was accompanied by Tejasvi Surya, Bengaluru South MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader. The Nagasandra -Madavara (BIEC) metro extension is completed, marking a significant milestone in the development of Bangalore’s metro network under Phase-2 of the project. The elevated corridor includes three key stations—Majunathanagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara (BIEC).

The new addition to the Namma Metro network is expected to turn out a boon for those living in nearby large residential complexes and towns. It is because the extension will cut down the travel time by 30 per cent, allowing residents to affordable metro rides to more distant destinations.

The project has been constructed at the total cost of Rs 1,168 crore, including Rs 152 crore for land acquisition. Though it is the smallest extension but it is no less impactful link to Phase-1 of the metro network under Phase-2. What makes this extension particularly important is its strategic location.

Strategically-Designed

The Nagasandra -Madavara (BIEC) extension runs parallel to the National Highway. It crossed the NICE Road at two points that significantly improves metro access to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) – a key hub for national and international conferences and exhibitions.

With the new addition, the line is expected to facilitate an additional 44,000 passengers daily. Thoughtfully-designed stations along this extension improves pedestrian access. At Manjunathanagar, a foot overbridge (FoB) facilitates safe crossing for pedestrians, while Chikkabidarakallu offers a pedestrian underpass to cross the NHAI road. The Madavara station features an underpass for crossing the NH road.

Once it is completely operational, the Nagasandra -Madavara (BIEC) metro extension will contribute to Bangalore’s growing metro network as it brings the total to 76.95 km, spanning 69 stations across the city.

When will It Open?

According to media reports, the Namma Metro Green Line extension is expected to be launched on Thursday, November 7. Bengaluru South MP L S Tejasvi Surya stated that he met Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs in Delhi to push for the line’s early inauguration.
