The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk strike in West Bengal on Wednesday to protest the police actions during the Nabanna Abhijan. The rally, which took place on Tuesday, saw widespread violence and chaos across the streets of Kolkata and Howrah.
The protest comes in the wake of an incident on August 9, where a trainee doctor was allegedly raped and killed in the seminar hall of the government-run RK Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj (West Bengal Students' Community) and the Sangrami Joutha Mancha (Joint Platform of Struggle), an organisation representing state government employees, organised the Nabanna Abhijan on August 27, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
