babar azam same as imran khan! ex-pakistan star basit ali makes bold comparison

Pakistan are currently undergoing one of the roughest patches of their cricketing history having been whitewashed for the first time at home by an Asian nation (Bangladesh) in a Test Series. This was preceded by group stage exits in the 20 World Cup 2024 and the ODI World Cup 2023. Babar Azam has bore the maximum brunt of criticism, since he is the biggest player right now in the Pakistan setup.

Despite, his poor form, former Pakistan star Basit Ali has likened him to their Imran Khan, who is considered their greatest ever captain.

Basit Ali Compares Babar Azam To Imran Khan

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said that Babar Azam has not been scoring runs. However, despite this he is on the television, even if he is seen walking somewhere. He also said that Babar Azam's popularity exceeds anyone else in Pakistan as every moment is on TV.

“Babar Azam hasn’t been scoring runs. However, even if he is walking somewhere, the video of that is everywhere on the television. This is when he is out of form. It’s Babar Azam on one side, and all the remaining players on the other side. Every movement of his is on the television," Basit said.

Who Is Imran Khan?

Imran Khan can be considered to be one of the greatest all-rounders that cricket has ever seen. In 88 Tests, he scored 3807 runs and picked 362 wickets. He has also scored 3709 runs and picked 182 wickets in ODIs. In addition, he is also considered Pakistan's greatest-ever captain as well. He led them to their only ODI World Cup win in 1992.

Babar Azam's Horrid Current Form

Babar Azam had a disastrous Test Series against Bangladesh where he scored just 64 runs from 4 innings, including a duck for the the first time in a home Test match in his career. He also faced flak for being the captain in Pakistan's horrid campaigns in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024.
