The captaincy situation in the Pakistan cricket team always seems to be in a bit of a mess, and it has now taken another turn just five months before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. After Shan Masood led Pakistan to five consecutive losses since being appointed as the new Test captain, there were reports all over, that he would be removed from his position ahead of the Pakistan vs England series. While reports suggested that Mohammad Rizwan was the favourite to replace Masood, Babar Azam's name also came in the mix. However, both of them will not become the captain for Pakistan in the longest format according to a report.
Shan Masood Set To Be Retained As Test Captain: Report
According to a report by PTI, Shan Masood is set to be retained as the captain of the Pakistan Test side ahead of the their five-match series against England. He is also likely to hold discussions with Test head coach Jason Gillespie and selectors Mohammed Yousuf and Asad Shafiq as to what the composition of the squad will be.
In fact, there are no big changes expected to be made in the squad, according to a source close to the proceedings.
"While white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten has identified some new young players from the Champions Cup for T20 and ODI sides, Gillespie and high-performance coach, Tim Nielsen, have still not made up their mind on any new probables for the Test series against England," the source said.

Pakistan last played a two-match Test Series against Bangladesh, where they were embarrassed by the visitors. Bangladesh became the first Asian nation to clean sweep Pakistan at their home in a Test Series.
Babar Azam To Be Retained As White-Ball Captain
The report states that he will continue as the white-ball captain. This means that Babar is also likely to regain his place back as the Pakistan ODI captain after resigning from the position after the dismal performance in the ODI World Cup 2023.
