zeeshan siddique joins ncp, to contest upcoming maharashtra polls from vandre east

Mumbai: Zeeshan Siddique, son of late Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, joined the Nationalist Congress Party on Friday. Former Mumbai Youth Congress president Zeeshan Siddiqui joined the party in the presence of Ajit Pawar in Mumbai. NCP has announced Siddique as its candidate from Vandre East constituency for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

In the 2019 polls, Zeeshan Siddiqui defeated the Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, former Mayor of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, to win Vandre East. However, Zeeshan was expelled by Congress earlier this year over allegations of cross-voting in Maharashtra legislative council elections, a charge denied by him.

For the 2024 assembly polls, the Vandre East seat has gone to Congress ally Shiv Sena (UBT) as part of seat-sharing within the Maha Vikas Aghadi. The Uddhav Thackeray-led party has fielded his nephew, Varun Sardesai, from the constituency.
