Avatar: The Last Airbender has announced the actress cast as Toph Beifong. Miya Cech, who has worked in the Netflix film You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah and the limited series Beef, will take on the role of the powerful Earthbender. Netflix also released a short video, as part of Geeked week, that gave fans a glimpse of Toph’s power while revealing the start of production on Season 2. Check out the video below!

The casting of Toph Beifong is an important one for the live-action series. In the anime series, Toph is blind since birth. The show had launched an Open Casting Call, which encouraged blind and low vision performers to audition. The makers have said that Miya will be “working with a producer and consultant, who is blind and a professional from the blindness community, to make sure the blindness community is represented appropriately.”

The description of Toph in the Casting Call states, “She is sassy, confident and unfiltered. For most of her life her strength and formidable earthbending skills have been suppressed, but now on the run as the Avatar’s earthbending master she is uninhibited to become the fierce warrior she believes she is inside.”

About Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2

The fantasy adventure series has already been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 by Netflix. It stars Gordon Cormier as Avatar Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh, Ken Leung as Commander Zhao and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai.

To celebrate the start of Season 2, executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani told Tudum what to expect next, “We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2. We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original, and explore some of the stories that the animation didn’t. Mainly — we’re looking forward to seeing our gang all together again.”
