A big part of being in the movie industry is based on how you look. Bollywood stars are in a constant race to stay fit enough to check off the many unrealistic standards the industry dictates. But for renowned actor Suniel Shetty, staying in shape has become second nature and even at the age of 63, he’s regarded as #fitnessgoals for many. In a recent interview with Ranveer Allahbadia he gave audiences an insight into the regimes he follows to stay healthy, most of which come down to how he eats.
The core of his fitness habits is how he eats, in fact, he says 80% of the results he sees is all down to food. He always opts for homecooked meals over eating out or ordering food whenever possible to ensure he has complete control over what’s going on in his meals. He also rigorously keeps track of his calories and plans his meals accordingly.

He also has an unusual blanket rule that helps him stay in shape, he avoids ‘anything white’. This can include white rice, milk, salt, sugar, and anything ‘white’ he consumes very infrequently and with a lot of restraint. The logic behind this is that is that white rice, bread and sugars tend to be more processed than whole grain or unrefined versions of the same products.
Meals typically look very simple in his home. Dal, sabzis, ragi millet rotis, soups and light meals are the go-to. Shetty also prefers to avoid artificial supplements and protein boosters as he believes every person’s body is different and diets should be tailored accordingly. He also emphasises the need for a controlled routine in combination with a clean diet for the best effects. For example he usually sleeps early by 10:30 pm so that he can wake up by 5 or 6 in the morning.
Leading a healthy lifestyle is something that many people struggle with in the modern day where it’s so easy to access and binge on unhealthy food and lifestyle choices, but for Suniel Shetty, sticking with a personalised fitness routine and healthy diet seems to have become second nature, and clearly it’s having the desired results because even in his 60s he’s counted among some of the fittest actors in the industry.
