Online Debate Erupts Over Price Discrepancy for Android and iOS Users on Flipkart
A recent social media post by user Saurabh Sharma has sparked conversation after he noted a pricing discrepancy on Flipkart, showing different prices for the same product based on the operating system used. Sharing screenshots on X, Sharma revealed that a Mokobara cabin suitcase appeared cheaper for Android users, listed at ₹4,119 with a 65% discount, while on an iPhone, the same item was shown at ₹4,799 with a 60% discount. Additionally, Android users had a no-cost EMI option starting at ₹1,373 per month, compared to ₹1,600 for iOS users.
Sharma questioned the disparity, suggesting, “Apple charges 30% commission on subscriptions, so different pricing for iOS makes sense there. But for e-commerce? Very shady and unfair.” Following up, he shared a response from Flipkart’s customer support, which explained, “Prices may vary since they are determined by the seller based on various factors,” and encouraged users to enjoy the “great deals and discounts” provided by sellers.
The post has since gained traction, with over 127,000 views and numerous reactions. Some users commented on similar experiences, noting price differences on various platforms between Android and iOS. "This is common across multiple apps," one person wrote, while another highlighted that such variations also occur in services like cab fares.
