andhra pradesh rains: 2 men carry baby in crate through neck-deep flood waters in vijayawada- video

Vijayawada: Nearly 4.5 lakh people were affected after torrential downpour in Andhra Pradesh left at least 20 dead. Since last few days, unprecedented rainfall and floods have brought lives in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to stand still. One such incident from Andhra Pradesh has come to light where two men were seen carrying a baby in crate through neck-deep flood waters.

In the video, the two men were captured carrying an infant in a crate through Singh Nagar area where neck-deep flood waters had affected the locality in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada. Few users on social media likened the scene to the birth of Hindu deity Lord Krishna.

One user on X commented, "Jai Shri Krishna of new era."

As many as 26 NDRF teams and 21 SDRF teams are deployed in the state for rescue operation. About 12 SDRF and 22 NDRF teams are deployed in NTR district, where 77 shelters are opened and 14,160 people are rehabilitated and 77 health camps are opened for the flood victims.

Vijayawada is the worst-hit area, and has impact on 32 wards and affected population is 2.76lakhs. Due to Budameru breaches, floodwaters are flowing into Vijayawada, as a result, all of these places have been submerged. The Budameru Vagu river, also known as the 'Sorrow of Vijayawada' is in spate following heavy rains and is leading to a flood-like situation in various parts of the city.

Other than Vijayawada, the districts which have witnessed floods include NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu, Bapatla, and Prakasam. These districts include areas where thousands of acres of crops have been submerged.

Over 100 trains have been cancelled, and several others have been diverted due to water logging over tracks at several locations in the state.

On Monday, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu conducted a review over the heavy rain fall and flood situation at the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority office and said that protecting the lives and property of people is his first priority.

The Chief Minister visited the flood affected areas to personally supervise the assistance and relief provided to the people. In a post on X the CM said "I visited the flood affected areas in Vijayawada on the second day. I have personally supervised the assistance provided to the affected people. I assured them. The power boats sent by the Center and the arrangements made by the state government have increased the speed of relief operations. Public safety is our responsibility. All efforts are being made to bring people out of this unexpected calamity as soon as possible. I wish the affected people to be brave".
