New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Special Cell, in a joint operation with Uttar Pradesh Police, arrested Anas Khan, a notorious gangster associated with the Hashim Baba Gang, following a shootout in Khatauli, Muzaffarnagar. Anas is considered the mastermind behind the July shooting at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, which resulted in the death of 32-year-old Riyazuddin.
Anas, along with his accomplice Asad Ameen, was apprehended after they opened fire on police during an attempted escape. Both sustained injuries during the encounter. Authorities recovered three pistols and nine live cartridges from the duo. Anas was wanted in four criminal cases in Delhi, including two for murder and two for attempted murder.
The earlier GTB Hospital incident involved Anas allegedly orchestrating an attack that mistakenly targeted Riyazuddin instead of the intended victim, Waseem, another gangster who was also undergoing treatment. Following the shooting, Waseem was moved to a private room for safety.
Investigations revealed that Anas supplied firearms to a juvenile who participated in the GTB attack. He coordinated the assault in response to threats directed at his brother from Waseem's gang while they were both incarcerated. DCP (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary noted that Anas had provided the juvenile with pistols and ammunition, contributing to the violent incident.
During the assault, the juvenile fired the first shot, but his weapon jammed. Subsequently, Faiz, another accomplice, fired three shots, and the juvenile managed to fire another round before the group fled the scene.
Anas's arrest marks a significant development in the case, which has seen a total of six arrests so far, including two other individuals directly involved in the conspiracy. The police are continuing their efforts to apprehend additional members of the gang, as investigations reveal that Anas and his associates frequently used encrypted communication methods to evade detection.
