New Delhi: Radical preacher and jailed MP Amritpal Singh’s father has announced decision to float a political party. The decision was taken given the current situationin Punjab, Amritpal Singh’s father, Tarsem Singh, said.
Tarsem Singh made the announcement during his visit to Golden Temple in Amritsar.
"Will share party name soon. Decision given the situation in Punjab," he said.
Recently, the Punjab Police had claimed that Amritpal Singh poses a serious threat to the life of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann along with the law and order situation of the state.
The Punjab Police made the claim while submitting an affidavit before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The police submitted video clips recorded outside the Ajnala Police Station in which Amritpal Singh can be heard warning that Mann will meet the same fate as former chief minister Beant Singh as proof of its charges against the radical preacher.
"We warned CM Mann to not walk on the path of CM Beant Singh… CM Mann is still proceeding on the path earlier tread by him. Dilawar acted as a human bomb and blew up CM Beant Singh… CM Mann has ensured that several such Dilawar's have taken birth out of this present crowd today," Amritpal is heard saying in those videos, reported The Times of India.
Radical preacher Amritpal Singh contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate and won from Khadoor Sahib seat by defeating Congress' Kulbir Singh Zira. He is the chief of the 'Waris Punjab De' outfit and is currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA).
