Alia Bhatt starrer Jigra got a clearance from the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday allowing it to release on October 11. It lifted the stay imposed by a commercial court in Jodhpur on its release two days ago with regard to a trademark infringement application.
What was the complaint about?
On October 8, an ad interim injunction order came up after Bhallaram Choudhary filed a trademark violation plea claiming that 'Jigra' was his trademark. According to him, he runs online classes under the same name for which he had obtained a trademark in September 2023 under The Trade Marks Act (1999), Class 41 which deals with education, entertainment and training. The petitioner thus sought a stay on its release.

How did the makers defended Jigra?
Dharma Productions cited its own trademark registration under various Classes, barring 41. Its senior advocate Vikas Balia claimed that the appellant wasn't dealing with any trade in goods or services that would violate the Trade Marks Act by making the movie.
A Division Bench comrpising of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Munnuri Laxman found that prima facie, Jigra did not infringe trademark rights.
The move comes as a relief for the makers, who have been eyeing to release the movie with much fanfare on the festive weekend of Dussehra.
