after garbage row with donald trump, joe biden 'staying away' from kamala harris campaign: report

With less than two days left for the presidential elections, Democratic Nominee Kamala Harris and her allies are rigorously campaigning across the country, with a crucial focus on the key battleground states. However, President Joe Biden, one of Harris's key endorsers, was missing from the campaign, following the controversy he created after calling Trump supporters 'garbage.'

Biden stayed away from the campaign trail on the last weekend before the election day and instead spent his Sunday at the Fieldstone Golf Club, located near his home in Wilmington, Delaware. The 81-year-old didn't play golf but had lunch with former Senator and close friend, Ted Kauffman, the Daily Mail reported.

Biden referred to Donald Trump supporters as 'garbage' while on a video call with a Latino voters group. And then on Saturday, during a campaign in Pennsylvania, he slammed the Republican nominee and his allies by saying that these are people "you would like to smack in the a–".

President Biden kept a light schedule so that he could accompany Harris on her campaign trail, however, the campaign team has still kept him on hold, the report suggested. Jon Favreau, Biden's former speech writer, believes that staying away from the campaign is "probably the best thing" the President can do now.

"I would look at the numbers, I would look at the race and say, I'm going to focus on being president over the next couple of days and that's probably the best thing he can do not just for the Harris campaign, but himself and his legacy too," Favreau said on CNN's 'The Lead with Jake Tapper.

Favreau also spoke about Harris's stance after her response on the Biden 'garbage' row.

'I actually think it was an opportunity for her that she took to separate herself a little bit from Joe Biden, which she has been-that's been one of her big challenges-and I think now she can say in these final couple days, "Look, I am out here trying to fight for every vote and trying to bring people together and sort of end the division in the country and Donald Trump," he added.
