Almost one year after Adobe first demonstrated the Generative AI features for its video editing platform Premiere Pro, it has made some major announcements and added new capabilities to the same. These include a very interesting Generative Extend feature which basically allows creators to extend the length of any video clip within the Premiere Pro platform with just a simple drag. It only works for HD and Full HD videos for now, shot up to 30fps but Adobe says it is working on further improving the capabilities.
The capability was announced during company’s annual tech conference MAX. Adobe used the same platform in Miami to announced Text to Video and Image to Video features for Premiere Pro. All these features will initially be available in the beta version of the software.
“The usage of Firefly within our creative applications has seen massive adoption, and it’s been inspiring to see how the creative community has used it to push the boundaries of what’s possible,” said Ely Greenfield, chief technology officer, digital media at Adobe while making the announcement. “We are thrilled to bring creative professionals even more tools for ideation and creation, all designed to be commercially safe.”
Generative Extend for videos
As the name suggests, the feature can be used to extend the length of videos within the Premiere Pro platform. Adobe believes that this new feature will allow creators to cover gaps in footage and smooth out transitions by extending the clips. What’s impressive though is that you can not only extend the length of the clip but also the sound effects playing at the back. Do keep in mind that Generative Extend won’t create or extend spoken dialogue, so it’ll be muted. Also, the music cannot be extended because of the copyright issue.
The other limitations of this feature include –
– 1920×1080 or 1280×720 resolutions for video
-16:9 aspect ratio
– 12-30fps
– 8 bit, SDR
– Mono and stereo audio
– Text to Video and Image to Video
We have seen enough demos of these capabilities in the last few years to know how they work, but Adobe is now bringing these capabilities directly to Premiere Pro. So, you can generate videos from using text prompts and from images. The users will have the option to access a variety of camera angles and more.
Adobe also claimed that it’s Text to Image model is now 4 times faster so you will take less time to create AI images. As of now, the video generation features are free as part of the Firefly public beta but final pricing and offers will be announced when it is available widely.
