Abraham & Thakore Spring-Summer '25 collection, Finding Beauty, made its debut at LFW x FDCI, redefining the boundaries of luxury by transforming the absurd into the elegant and the discarded into the desirable. As masters of reinterpretation, their collection featured thoughtful upcycling, making clever use of overlooked materials that had a dual purpose – commentary on mindful fashion while integrating nostalgia into the very fabric of the ensemble.
While their core has been minimalistic ever since the designer duo David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore launched their eponymous label in 1992 (and were later joined by Kevin Nigli), the brand has been experimenting with whimsical touches and textures with every new collection.
On Sustainable Fashion Day of Lakmē Fashion Week, the duo used materials that evoke nostalgia, such as cassette tapes, chip wrappers and discarded X-rays, into a collection of occasion wear which featured glamorous saris, and statement pieces. Toffee wrappers, bin bags, kitchen foil and rice sacks also made an appearance, woven intricately into the finest silks, georgettes, and organzas. And walking for the duo was ace actress Shefali Shah, who wore a stunning black saree with a waist cincher. From co-ord sets, oversized blazers and sequinned kurtas, Abraham and Thakore upcycled quirky, memorable but discarded materials into glamorous evening wear.
The brand, which has been focussed on “mindful, responsible fashion” fashion, once again brought to fore conversations on waste and value. Breathing new life into what was once lost, the ‘Masters of Minimalism’ certainly made a statement, just like Shefali, who correlated her presence on the ramp with the designers’ aim with the show. “Unfortunately, in our industry, women have a shelf life and there is no resurrection post that. But here I am.”
