abhishek banerjee on unprecedented success after stree 2: don't think it has sunk in yet | exclusive

Abhishek Banerjee proved his mettle as an actor a long time ago but it is now that he's finally getting the successs he deserves. During a recent interview with Zoom discussed his significant role in Maddock's horror-comedy series. He shared his appreciation for the audience's support and mentioned that his parents are extremely proud of him.

After Bachchan, we have another Abhishek who is popular, how does it feel?

It feels great, sir. I mean, since childhood, there's one thing which I think the teachers teach you, parents teach you, everybody teaches you, is that hard work always pays. And that's what I believe now. If you work hard towards something, then you can probably find a place which is unexpected for you. So, I'm very happy that my hard work has paid off and I'm enjoying the season.

Would you say Stree is a game-changer in your career?

Of course! Stree fetched me a lot of recognition amongst the industry, but the second part has like, you know, really got me a lot of attention. And it doesn’t happen every day that you wake up in the morning and every day you’re waking up to a broken record and the kind of numbers this film is doing.

Did you feel the pressure of delivering something bigger in Part 2?

Honestly, even now, I don't think any of us really feel the heat. I don't think it has sunk in yet. It's just a privilege to be a part of the history of Hindi cinema, of Indian cinema. I'm a history buff. So, I'm very happy that whenever the history of Indian cinema will be written, Stree ka naam or mere character Jana ka naam uss kitab mein zaroor hoga. So, I’m very, very happy to be a part of that legacy.

Do you see Stree as the turning point in your career?

Yes, of course, Stree 1 was a turning point for me because that was my first feature film, my first feature commercial film. I had done Indie films before, but that was my first commercial film. So, the first time the industry noticed me as an actor was Stree. And from Stree toStree 2, I think it’s just grown leaps and beyond. Sir, the kind of popularity the film has got, that’s definitely helped each one of us, whoever has worked in the film. And I just find myself lucky to be a part of the beautiful destiny that I’m a part of Stree and this horror universe which Maddock and Amar Kaushik are creating. When I see the love in the eyes of the audience, when they come to you and show their love, all the attention you get from the public, from the industry, I think it feels very, very special. Any artist, I think, is living for this kind of a day where people recognize you, they appreciate your work. And I’ve got that because ofStree 2, because of Jana and because of all the other characters I’ve played before this. They have connected the dots and finally, they recognized me as my name.

Shah Rukh praised your performance?

It feels very, very special. Yeah, I mean, because I don't know how to articulate this, but all I felt was love. I mean, he is the king of romance, but also I think as a human being, he's a very, very generous king.I had said that before. And when kings praise you, you become very important in the kingdom. So, I'm very, very happy to feel important and feel loved by all. It really was one of the finest and the best moments of my life. My parents were certainly proud of me, not because I've done movies or I've acted because Shah Rukh Khan hugged me. I think that moment was almost comparable with my entire career.
