Mumbai: Over 56 per cent users chose to buy tickets online for the Metro Line 2A & 7. This means a significant decline in the paper tickets, leading Mumbai to become greener and sustainable. In one month, the online ticket bookings were hiked by 10 per cent as earlier, less than 50 per cent had used online modes to reserve seats at the Mumbai Metro. This could be possible after the authorities gave a variety of options to its commuters, such as WhatsApp Ticketing, Mumbai One Card (part of National Common Mobility Card, or NCMC), and the Maha Mumbai Metro App.

According to the officials, 62 per cent commuters used paper Q2 tickets, 35 per cent used NCMC, 3 per cent used mobile QR tickets NOW, 56 per cent on digital bookings and 44 per cent still use paper QR tickets.

Mumbai Metro WhatsApp Ticket Online

The WhatsApp-based ticketing works on the Open Network for Digital Commerce. Therefore it allows passengers to check-out and buy products from varied sellers without downloading any additional application in their mobile phones. To buy tickets for yellow and red lines, commuters will have to send a message saying 'Hi' to the dedicated WhatsApp number, 8652635500. They can also choose to scan the QR code displayed at metro stations.

Intending to book a ticket for Blue line Metro, commuters will have to send the message to 9670008889. Upon doing that, the user will receive a link where they can select the source and destination stations, the number of passengers, and their choice between a single or return-journey ticket.

Payment for the same will be done via WhatsApp or through a QR code. It should be noted that the authorities are planning to expand the feature to the aqua line in a few weeks, officials affirmed.
