Chemba Puttu

Prepared with a blend of simple ingredients, follow these simple steps and enjoy your day.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup chemba/ red rice flour
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt as required

Method
  • Start by adding red rice flour along with salt in a mixing bowl. Mix it evenly and slowly add water into the mixture. Crumble the flour and ensure that you are adding water in small batches. Mix well with the help of your fingertips as the flour needs to hold shape.
  • Prepare a moist flour with a crumbly texture and allow the flour to rest for about 10 minutes. In the meantime, boil water in the puttu kutti or vessel. Take a puttu steamer and layer the vessel with 2 tbsp of freshly grated coconut and level it up.
  • Close the puttu kutti or cylindrical tube and allow it to steam for about 10-15 minutes or until the steam escapes from the top holes of the puttu vessel. Carefully open and push the puttu using a wooden ladle. Serve with ghee, jaggery or banana and enjoy!
