Chennai Rain News Highlights: Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu are on high alert as a cyclonic system intensifies over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. The deep depression, currently located 120 km east-southeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and 550 km south-southeast of Chennai, is expected to strengthen into a cyclonic storm soon. Moving north-northwest at 13 kmph, it is likely to skirt Sri Lanka before making landfall between Cuddalore and Chennai on November 30.
The system is set to unleash heavy to very heavy rainfall across the region, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. In Chennai, residents are also preparing up for five-hour power cuts on November 27 and 28 due to maintenance work, scheduled from 9 am to 2 pm. However, authorities have assured that power will be restored sooner if possible. Citizens are urged to stay vigilant as the city braces for potential disruptions from the storm. Schools and colleges have been shut, and holidays declared in parts of Tamil Nadu due to heavy rainfall. Educational institutions in Karaikal, Puducherry, and some areas of Chennai are among those affected.
