TECHNICAL
The film beings on a rather abrupt note, directly drawing the audience into the narrative. There is no laborious introductions of the characters, their parts being established breezily as the first half rushes through. The film does begin well, drawing the audience in successfully into the intrigue that the plot raises, and keeps the narrative quite engaging, but runs the risk of meandering towards the end without tying up all corners satisfactorily for the viewer. The background score is a huge plus, supplementing the quirky story-telling that the film seeks to deliver. With a crisply-edited runtime of under two hours, Njan Kandatha Sare does well in keeping the audience engaged by efficiently balancing elements of dark humour within the thriller genre.
PERFORMANCES
Indrajith plays the timid Jokuttan with ease, and delivers quite a convincing performance. Meanwhile, a highlight performance in the film belongs to actor Baiju Santhosh, who is seen in a new avatar, and his screen presence is something to look forward to. While casting an actor like Anoop Menon, one would expect something new or refreshing or even mildly challenging for the actor, but he was boxed into such a run-of-the-mill character that could have been done by anyone.
VERDICT
Njan Kandatha Sare is a fun, breezy watch that begins well, but fails to keep the momentum or the interest going because of an inconsistent screenplay, one that did not even allow a plethora of fantastic cast members a chance at contribute. Although a different attempt at presenting dark humour, Njan Kandatha Sare might not stick well with all kinds of audiences.
