Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Kanpur has rolled back the revision of the eligibility criteria of Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Advanced 2025. As per the notice released today – 18 November 2024, the institutes have decided to roll back the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced which had extended the number of attempts to three for students. Previous eligibility criteria is now applicable for JEE Advanced 2025 as well.

IIT Kanpur had earlier this month announced its decision to revise the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025. As the conducting institute, IIT Kanpur informed of its decision to allow students a total of three attempts. As per the recommended changes, students who had passed their Class 12 in 2023 would have been eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced 2025 examination.

This revision, however, has now been rolled back. In the circular dated November 18, the institutes announced that Joint Admission Board, JAB has decided to restore the earlier eligibility criteria. The decision was taken following the JAB Meeting held on November 15, 2024. As per the circular, the decision wastaken after considering several ‘competing requirements’.

Accordingly, the JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria now stands restored and no changes are applicable. In other words, the three attempts of JEE Advanced have now been rolled back to its original two attempts. Furthermore, the age limit and other requirements also now stand as per the previous year.

For the uninformed, as per the eligibility criteria, students who have appeared in the qualifying examination of the year or the preceding year of the examination, are only eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced 2025 examination. This was the condition which limits the attempts of the IIT entrance exam to maximum two for candidates.

The eligibility criteria, as it now stands, is now available on the official website jeeadv.ac.in. The exam date for JEE Advanced has not been announced at present. Candidates interested are advised to keep a check on the official website for the same.

Furthermore, the eligibility criteria of qualifying JEE Main 2025 for JEE Advanced 2025 remains as is. All interested students are hence advised to fill the online application form for JEE Main 2025, registration of which is closing soon. JEE Main 2025 will be conducted in January and April. JEE Advanced 2025 is tentatively expected to be conducted on May 25, 2025. Actual date would be announced by IIT Kanpur soon.
