Irfan Pathan made a big claim ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction and predicted that Mitchell Starc's record for the most expensive purchase in history will be broken in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Starc was purchased for a whopping Rs. 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, and the record being broken in a mega auction will mark an unprecedented moment in the league's history.
The 2025 auction is set to be the biggest in more than a decade, with several top stars set to go under the hammer. The likes of Jos Buttler, Arshdeep Singh, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Starc himself will come up for bid, but Pathan named Rishabh Pant as the player that will break the veteran Australian player's record.
"Mitchell Starc’s auction record is in danger. Rishabh Pant is ready to break it!," Pathan wrote on X.

Where Will Rishabh Pant Play In IPL 2025?
Rishabh Pant's decision to part ways with Delhi Capitals (DC) was the biggest surprise of the IPL retention day, as the 27-year-old had played for the franchise ever since his IPL debut. This is the first time since 2016, when DC purchased him for Rs. 1.9 crore. Later, the Delhi-based franchise retained him for Rs. 8 crore ahead of the 2018 mega auction and Rs. 16 crore in 2022.
As a triple package of batter, wicketkeeper, and captain, Pant will generate interest from around the room. Teams looking for a captain are likely to show interest in acquiring the 2024 T20 World Cup winner's services. Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been linked with him, while DC can use the Right to Match (RTM) card on him.
