Prithvi Shaw will be one of the players to watch out for in the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Once considered to be the future star of Indian cricket, Shaw hasn't played international cricket since 2021 while he has been out of the national squad since 2023. Shaw made his return for the T20I series against New Zealand last year but didn't get a chance.
Recently, he was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team due to fitness issues and he is working on it to make his return. At the IPL 2025 mega-auction, it will be the first time when Shaw will be up for grabs since becoming a capped player.
Delhi Capitals (DC) retained him before the IPL 2022 mega-auction and retained his services for a couple of seasons despite his below-par performance. Since Shaw is a capped player and has played all three formats, many expected him to register for the mega-auction at the highest base price. But that isn't the case.
The former DC opener has set his base price at Rs 75 lakh. Shaw is still one of the quickest batsmen in Indian cricket and can single-handedly win matches when in form. Few teams are expected to bid for the talented batsmen in the mega-auction.
Prithvi Shaw's below-par form
Prithvi Shaw struggled in IPL 2020 and only managed 228 runs at an average of 17.53. He bounced back strongly and scored 479 runs in IPL 2021. Shaw managed to score 228 runs in 10 matches in IPL 2022.
He scored 106 runs in played 8 matches in IPL 2023 and followed up with 198 runs in the same number of matches in IPL 2024. He was expected to get released before the IPL 2025 mega-auction and Shaw will be part of an auction for the first time since 2018. The former India U19 World Cup-winning had joined DC in the IPL 2018 mega-auction, which took place during the ICC event.
