India suffered another blow a week before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Shubman Gill suffered a finger injury on the second day of the intra-squad practice match. The Times of India has reported that Shubman injured his finger while fielding in slips. There is still no official word on Shubman but the report adds that he isn't ruled out of the Perth Test match yet.
“Yes, Shubman Gill is injured but it is too early to rule him out of the opening Test. The medical team is keeping a close watch on him," a source told TOI. "Virat Kohli is absolutely fine. He batted in the match simulation without any discomfort and also had a hit in the net after he got out. No concerns there," the source said while giving an update on Virat Kohli.
Shubman's injury has added to India's woes. KL Rahul suffered a blow on the opening day of the game and did not return to bat while other batsmen batted again.
Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the intra-squad game and looks set to face the new ball in Perth if Rohit Sharma isn't available. Abhimanyu Easwaran doesn't seem to be in the scheme of things.
Will Rohit Sharma join Team India in Perth?
Rohit Sharma has been blessed with a baby boy and he could now join Team India in Perth before the start of the first test match. The India captain did not fly with Team India to be with his wife.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir did not rule Rohit out of the Perth game and he can still join the team for the first Test match. Rohit will open the innings with Yashasvi if he reaches Perth in time. The first Test match is scheduled to be played from November 22 to 26. Jasprit Bumrah will lead India if Rohit isn't available.
