Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma produced a batting display that will live long in the memory of cricket fans during the 4th T20I between India and South Africa on Friday (November 15) at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg as India posted a huge total of 293 on the board.
Both players scored their second centuries of the series. Samson became the first player in the world to hit three T20I centuries in a year having scored a ton against Bangladesh at Hyderabad in October and against the Proteas in the series opener at Durban. Meanwhile, Tilak became the second Indian after Samson to hit consecutive T20I tons.
Samson reached his ton in 51 balls and finished with a knock of 109 in 56 balls while Tilak made a 47-ball 120. Both players remained unbeaten on the crease.

Samson and Tilak's incredible achievement means that India are the first team in the world among full member nations to have two players score a century in the same innings. Overall, the Czech Republic (vs Bulgaria in 2022) and Japan (vs. China in 2024) are the only two teams to achieve the feat in international cricket. As far as T20 cricket is concerned, the same feat has been done a total of eight times, with three of them coming in the IPL.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) achieved the feat in 2016 against Gujarat Lions with tons by Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers. Sunrisers Hyderabad did the same against RCB with centuries from David Warner and Jonny Bairstow. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan's incredible effort saw the Gujarat Titans' achieve the remarkable feat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ahemdabad earlier this year.

Elsewhere, Gloucestershire achieved the feat against the Middlesex in 2011 during an England T20 blast match. Rangapur also did the same against Chattogram in 2019.
Samson and Tilak also set the record for the highest T20I partnership by a full-member nation pair for any wicket.
