vistara’s final bow: how vistara-air india merger will affect your flights

Vistara Air India Merger News: On November 12, the much-anticipated merger between Air India and Vistara will officially take place. This followed the Indian government’s approval of Singapore Airlines’ foreign direct investment of Rs 2,058.5 crore in the Air India Group. As Air India absorbs Vistara’s operations, one goal remains: to maintain the high-quality service Vistara passengers are accustomed to, while expanding Air India’s capabilities. With the integration of Vistara’s network, Air India will now offer flights to over 90 domestic and international destinations, along with access to an additional 800 destinations through codeshare and interline partnerships. But does Vistara’s flight into the sunset change anything for you?

Here’s what this merger means for a traveller:

What Happens To Your Bookings

According to reports, approximately 115,000 customers with pre-booked Vistara flights will be flying under Air India’s management.

If you've already booked a flight with Vistara, rest assured that your travel experience will remain largely unchanged for now. The familiar Vistara aircraft will continue to operate, though they will now carry an Air India flight code starting with ‘AI2’. For instance, a flight previously known as UK 234 will now be identified as AI 234. You’ll still be able to book and manage these flights seamlessly on the Air India website or app.

Will Your Vistara Airport Lounge Access Work?

For travellers who purchased Vistara lounge access before November 11, 2024, their access will remain valid as originally booked. However, post Nov 11, lounge access will be handled by Air India; your booked access will be refunded and you’ll have to book a new access through Air India.

About Vistara Co-Branded Credit Cards And Club Vistara Loyalty Points

Yes, your Vistara co-branded credit cards will remain valid after the merger with Air India. While you can continue using these cards as usual, there may be updates to the specific benefits and rewards currently linked to Vistara. Similarly, Vistara’s loyalty program will be integrated into Air India’s Flying Returns program. Your existing Vistara loyalty points will be automatically transferred to the Air India system with no loss in value.

Customer Support and Airport Assistance

To ensure a smooth transition, Air India has put in place several measures to assist travellers including help desk kiosks that will be set up at major airports as well as on-ground support staff. Vistara’s check-in counters and ticket offices will also gradually transition to Air India’s branding, while self-service kiosks will be updated to reflect the new AI2 flight codes.

The same extends to international passengers, who can use the support staff for help. Updated signages will direct travellers to the appropriate check-in areas, while calls to Vistara’s customer service will be redirected to Air India representatives.
