Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell shared his thoughts on not being retained by his team before the 2025 mega auction. Specifically, RCB kept three players — Virat Kohli (INR 21 Cr), Rajat Patidar (INR 11 Cr), and Yash Dayal (INR 5) — for this season using INR 37 Crore.
The franchise located in Bengaluru is holding three Right to Match (RTM) cards and an auction purse of INR 83 Crore. One of the notable names released by the franchise was Glenn Maxwell, who has been with the team since 2021.
“I got a phone call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower. I sat there on a Zoom call, and they sort of explained to me the decision not to be retained. And, it was a really beautiful exit meeting, if that that could be possible. We ended up talking about the game for about half an hour and talking about their strategy and what they were looking to get to do, going forward. So, I was really happy with that,” said Maxwell on ESPNCricinfo’s Around the Wicket show.
Further speaking ahead, the Australian star said that he understood the team’s plans for the upcoming season.
Maxwell didn't have the best season in 2024 with only 52 runs in 9 innings. He was picked by RCB in 2021 auction and retained ahead of the 2022 mega auction. He showed his gratitude for RCB management and hinted the franchise will try signing him in the 2025 mega auction.
Maxwell was among RCB's most consistent batters from 2021 to 2023.
