DIY Curtain Bangs: Follow These 9 Steps To Get The Perfect Haircut At Home
Prep Your Hair
Start with clean, dry, and straight hair for the best precision. If your hair is naturally wavy or curly, straighten it to make cutting easier.
Section Your Hair
Create a centre part. Using a fine-tooth comb, section off a small triangular portion of hair from the front. This section should be as wide as where you want the bangs to fall on either side.
Decide on Length
Determine how long you want your bangs. For softer, versatile curtain bangs, aim for cheekbone length. Remember, it's always safer to start longer, as you can trim more later.
Dampen the Bang Section
Lightly mist the hair section with water or a spray bottle. This makes it easier to cut and control.
Create the Angle
Split the triangular section into two equal parts. Comb one side toward the opposite cheek, holding it at an angle. Trim small amounts off, starting from the bottom, so it’s slightly shorter near the face and longer as it goes out.
Match the Other Side
Repeat the angled cut on the opposite side, mirroring the length and angle of the first side to achieve a balanced look.
Blend and Trim as Needed
Comb both sections forward to check for symmetry. Trim any stray hairs or adjust the length until both sides match evenly.
Add Texture
Hold your scissors vertically and make small snips along the ends to create a soft, feathered effect. This will add movement and prevent bluntness.
Style and Adjust
Blow-dry the bangs with a round brush, directing each side away from your face for the classic curtain effect. Finish with light styling to see how they sit, and make any minor adjustments.
