big traffic relief on cards for gurugram's corporate hub, udyog vihar-4: know haryana govt's plan

Gurugram: The Haryana government is mulling over a possible solution to decongest the corporate hub which is, at most times, packed with cars and private vehicles of officegoers. The city’s Udyog Vihar-4 area is house to several offices and hence often sees chaos due to cars and other private vehicles of those who work here.

Now, to tackle the traffic and parking issues in the area, the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) is planning to construct a multilevel parking at Udyog Vihar-4. As per the plan, reported Times of India, the parking lot will be spread across 1.5 acres of land near Bihari Market and accommodate up to 500 cars, the report added.

HSIIDC is now in the stage of finalising a consultant to conduct a technical and financial assessment for the project. The Haryana government's project is estimated to cost around Rs 50 crore and a final approval from the HSIIDC headquarters is pending as of now.

"We prepared a proposal for a dedicated parking facility at Udyog Vihar. We have received an in-principal approval from the authority and have done a preliminary study. Now we'll engage a consultant. Once we get the approval, it will evaluate all aspects of the project, ensuring a self-sustaining model for the facility. This multi-level parking project will be designed to relieve roadside parking congestion and improve traffic flow," Arun Garg, deputy general manager, HSIIDC said, quoted TOI.

Udyog Vihar Has Parking Sites, How Will This Project Help Udyog Vihar-4

Udyog Vihar already has around 8-10 parking lots across its five phases. However, these are not enough to cater to daily footfall in the area which sees a number of corporate employees, visitors, and commercial traffic.

Now, the lack of an organised parking system in the area leads to roadsides becoming temporary parking zones, causing frequent traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. According to the TOI report, the plan is not HSIIDC's first attempt at solving the parking crisis in Udyog Vihar.

20 years back in 2004, former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala laid the foundation stone for a multilevel parking facility to house 4,000 cars on a 4-acre plot in Vanijya Kunj. However, the report said, the project was launched but the plan never progressed.

The plot was finally auctioned in 2018 for Rs 1,496 crore from an 11-acre parcel that included the original parking site. Many such similar plans were proposed in the years after it but all remained largely on paper.
