School Holiday Tomorrow LIVE: With the rise in Delhi pollution and a layer of smog engulfing the National Capital, students and parents are expecting school holiday announcements. With Delhi AQI being recorded at 296 at 7 a.m. on Saturday, the air quality continues to be in 'the'very poor' category after Diwali. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that most areas in the capital recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) over 350, raising health concerns for residents.
The parents are demanding 'pollution holidays'. Aprajita, president of the Parents' Association, recently said despite the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), pollution continues to rise in the city. She has demanded closure of schools for at least five to six days in November and December, when pollution peaks.
Several schools in Delhi recently cancelled the school assemblies due to rising pollution and hazardous air quality. The Delhi NCR government announced school holidays in 2023 due to the poor air quality. As of now, a school holiday has not been announced for tomorrow. However, schools may switch to online classes to cover the syllabus and prepare students for exams.
In Anand Vihar, the AQI was recorded at a very poor category of 380 at 7 am; in ITO, it was 253 (poor) at 6 am; in RK Puram, it was 346 (very poor) at 6 am; in IGI Airport T3 it was 342 (very poor) at 6 am; and in Dwarka Sector 8 the AQI was 308 (very poor) at 7 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
