Hyderabad: During an inspection in a licensed Zomato warehouse on October 29, nearly 20 kilos of button mushrooms with the packaging date of October 30, 2024, was found. The discovery shocked the Food Safety officers, exposing out a new scam strategy. It was the Hyperpure warehouse of Zomato in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, where the checks were held. This place operates as a Food Business Operator (FBO) with a valid State License, and claims to deliver fresh food items.
It is worth noting that FBOs supply a wide range of products. It sells fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, gourmet items, packaging materials, consumables, and kitchen equipment โ to hotels, restaurants, as well as to catering service firms.

Flies Swarming, No Aprons
When the officials reached the warehouse, they found the space in an unhygienic condition as flies were buzzing around. Important tools to maintain cleanliness such as adequate insect-proof screens were not there. Many of the food handlers were not wearing caps or aprons, further compromising with the quality of the food they delivered.

The Commissioner of Food Safety also shared that the premises were found open directly to the outside environment without a proper insect proof screen.
Hyderabad has recently reported a number of incidents where providers have been compromising with the quality of food, causing diseases. In the latest, a woman died allegedly after consuming momos from a roadside stall in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Around 60 people had complained of vomit, nausea etc after eating momos from the same stall.
